Cleaning and small “upgrade” of the Samsung NP300E5A laptop

Hello friends! I show and tell you how you can increase the performance of a Samsung NP300E5A laptop. Additionally, I will show you how I cleaned the cooling system and updated the thermal paste.

Before carrying out the “upgrade” I decided to carry out mechanical maintenance on the laptop. Namely, disassemble, clean the cooler from dust and update the thermal paste. The laptop is not structurally complex to disassemble; there is no need to remove the keyboard. It is enough to unscrew the bottom cover of the tray; you will have to unscrew 10 screws.

Access to the cooler is unrestricted after removing the tray cover. We unscrew everything and clean it. In the photo you can see how much dirt and dust has accumulated over several years of work. Thermal paste was applied by Arctic MX-2 in an even, thin layer. To clean the dust I used a regular brush; there is a publication on the channel about such cleaning (I’ll leave a link at the end of the article). I put everything back together in the same order as I took it apart.

What did you do to increase performance? I installed a 240 GB SSD disk on which I installed Windows 7 and the necessary software. There is a publication on the channel about what software I always install on a fresh system (I will also leave the link at the end of the article). Instead of an optical drive, I installed a 12.7 mm slide, into which I installed a regular HHD drive to store some data. I added RAM, it was 4 GB, but it became 6 GB, the 4 GB module was not at hand. I was unable to install Windows 10, the installation could not complete correctly. I didn’t spend much time solving this problem, I installed 7, all the drivers installed without any problems.

That’s the entire upgrade; it was not possible to install another processor due to the lack of any alternatives to the already installed Intel Core i3-2330M in my supplies. But this is not the weakest processor, I think it’s not critical that I didn’t install something faster. But there remains the opportunity to stage something else. Whoever has this laptop model, write in the comments how you improved the performance of your equipment. This laptop is good because it has a discrete video card on board, albeit 512 MB. It can no longer be called a gaming game, but you can play some old gaming hits. It’s a great option for surfing the Internet, as well as for studying/work.

In the video I show the performance of the laptop after cleaning and upgrading.
